               Dr. Peter Vanrietvelde provides consultations, in shared care with your GP, to help you control chronic symptoms such as chronic pain,

               anxiety and sleep disturbance, and others, when other traditional treatments, including medicines have failed

               As a General practitioner with special interest (GPwSI), he shares care with your regular GP. Similar to other medical specialists,

               he welcomes referrals from GP’s, other medical specialists and allied health professionals and corresponds back in a timely manner.

               Please bring a health summary, or ask our Medical Receptionist for a consent form to send your medical records prior to your first appointment.

             You will need regular consultations.

               Medicare cardholders receive a Medicare rebate.

             Dr. Peter Vanrietvelde does not provide consultations, bulk billed under DVA.
               If you also have a Medicare card, you will get a Medicare rebate.
               However, it may be possible to get direct reimbursement of your out-of-pocket costs by the DVA's MEPI team. 
               The Medical Expenses Incurred Privately team can be contacted on 1800 838 372 and ask for the MEPI team or by email medtreat@dva.gov.au.
               Where eligible, he does provide DVA scripts. Please note, not all conditions and plant-based medicines are covered.

 

               Some medicines are not covered by the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) for Medicare cardholders. 

               Some are covered by the Repatriation Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (RPBS) for DVA cardholders. 

               Check with your individual health insurance provider, or community care organisation (e.g. Blue Care), as some companies are assisting patients

               by covering some costs of private, plant based medicine prescriptions.
       

               Holistic integrative medicine is often used as an adjunct to existing first line treatment. For improved symptom control,

               where other treatments/medicines are ineffective and/or have adverse reactions, or where a patient provides informed refusal

               for first line treatments/medications.

 

              Dr. Peter Vanrietvelde is an authorised prescriber, of some medicines, under the Therapeutic Goods Administration’s (TGA’s)

              Authorised Prescriber Scheme (APS), to relief symptoms of 29 specified medical conditions.

Dr. Peter Vanrietvelde - Authorised Prescriber

Dr. Peter Vanrietvelde graduated as a medical practitioner from Ghent University in Belgium, his country of origin.

He specialised as a consultant general practitioner in Dorset County, England. Moved to Australia in 2003 and worked in Broome, Western Australia before relocating to Cairns in 2008.

He started Cairns first dedicated plant-based medicine clinic.

He has a special interest also in the use of technology in health care and in the research regarding the wellbeing of medical practitioners.

Furthermore, he is an examiner for the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP).

Not only that, he is also a practice accreditation surveyor with QPA-GPA accreditation, ensuring general practices work to the standards set by the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP).
